You walk into any of these Scottsdale spots, and a great meal is never a gamble. The search for authentic Mexican food here is a serious sport, but this list cuts through the noise, from the polished craft of duck confit at Elvira's to a drive-thru doing righteous chilaquiles.

It is a city where a gas-station taco can beat a white-tablecloth entrée. We ate the queso, we timed the happy hours, and we wobbled out of Los Sombreros.

Now, go find your new favorite table.
